How to Migrate from Claude Code to meshcode: A Step-by-Step Guide

You don't have to give up Claude Code to get more out of it. Here's how to bring your existing Claude Code CLI subscription into meshcode and run several sessions in parallel panes instead of juggling terminal tabs.

This isn't a "leave Claude Code behind" guide — it's the opposite. If you already run Claude Code CLI in your terminal, you keep the exact same login and the exact same subscription. What changes is the container: instead of one terminal tab running one session at a time, meshcode gives you a native app where several Claude Code sessions (and other models) run side by side in panes, all at once. This guide walks through moving an existing project over and what actually changes about your day-to-day.

Before you start: what "migrating" actually means here

There's no export, no project file, no new account. Claude Code CLI already treats your repo as plain files on disk — meshcode does the same thing, just from a native window instead of a shell prompt. Migrating is three small steps:

  1. Open your existing repo in meshcode — same folder, same .git.
  2. Connect the same Claude Code login you already use — nothing new to pay for.
  3. Shift your mental model from "one terminal tab, one session" to "one pane per agent, running concurrently."

Your CLAUDE.md project instructions, your git history, your .env files, your CI — none of it moves, because none of it needs to. It was never inside a terminal tab to begin with.

Step 1: Open your project (no import, no conversion)

  • Install meshcode (Mac or Windows) and launch it.
  • Open the same project folder you'd normally cd into before running claude.
  • meshcode reads your working tree directly and picks up your existing CLAUDE.md the same way Claude Code CLI does — you don't rewrite your project instructions to move over.

Step 2: Connect the subscription you already have

This is the step people expect to cost something extra, and it doesn't:

  • In meshcode, connect Claude through its own CLI login — the same one you already authenticated for Claude Code.
  • That pane now runs on your existing Claude subscription, with no extra token charge from meshcode.
  • You're not adding a subscription. You're pointing the same login at a workspace that can run more than one session of it at a time.

Step 3: Re-learn the workspace — panes, not tabs

In a terminal, running two things at once means two tabs (or two terminal windows) you mentally switch between — checking one, tabbing to the other, losing your place. In meshcode, each pane runs its own agent concurrently and stays visible the whole time.

A natural first split: your primary Claude Code pane on the task you'd normally run in your main terminal tab; a second Claude Code pane on a genuinely independent task instead of a second tab you keep alt-tabbing to; a third pane on the built-in meshcode model for the mechanical stuff you don't want burning your Claude usage. Nothing stops you from running just one pane either — the point is you're no longer capped at one session by the shape of a terminal window.

Step 4: Adjust your habits, not your project

  • Stop serializing independent work. If task B doesn't depend on task A, it doesn't need to wait for a free tab — give it its own pane.
  • Route by cost and usage limits, not habit. Save your Claude Code pane for the reasoning-heavy work; send repetitive tasks to the built-in meshcode model so you're not burning Claude usage on boilerplate.
  • You get a real window, not a terminal multiplexer. Panes resize, rearrange, and stay visible without tmux-style keybindings to memorize.
  • Non-developers can now join in. A PM or designer who'd never touch a terminal can open a meshcode pane and describe what they want in plain language.

First-hour checklist

  • Install meshcode and open your existing project folder (same repo, same .git).
  • Connect your existing Claude Code login inside meshcode — no new subscription.
  • Confirm your CLAUDE.md is picked up the same way it was from the terminal.
  • Open a second pane and give it a genuinely independent task while your main pane keeps working.
  • Try the built-in meshcode model on one boilerplate task to see the cost difference.
  • Note which tasks you were previously running serially out of habit, not necessity.

What stays exactly the same

Your code, your repo, your git history, your CLAUDE.md, your CI, your deploy process — none of it changes. meshcode doesn't wrap or replace Claude Code; it connects to the same subscription through the same CLI and gives it more room to run. You can still drop back into a raw terminal and run claude directly any time you want — nothing about this migration is one-way.

Who this migration fits

  • You run Claude Code CLI daily and regularly have more than one thing you'd like it doing at once.
  • You keep a second terminal tab open just to avoid losing your place in the first one.
  • You want to pair your Claude subscription with a cheaper model for the boilerplate work, without leaving your terminal workflow behind entirely.
  • You've got a teammate who isn't comfortable in a terminal but should be able to prompt an agent too.
  • You want confirmation, in writing, that this doesn't touch your CLAUDE.md, your repo, or your existing subscription — it doesn't.
